Also known as fuse boards and fuse boxes, the domestic consumer unit controls and distributes power from the mains supply to circuits within a property's electricity installation. They also work to prevent problems from occuring, such as electrical shocks or fires, by tripping the system in the event of a power overload. There is usually a main trip switch on the unit to allow the power to be turned off manually to isolate the supply.
